Northern Horizon is deeply committed to helping society care for its ageing population by providing much-needed, modern and sustainable care facilities across the Nordic countries.

The built environment is a major contributor to global CO₂ emissions, and as a long-term investment manager, Northern Horizon recognizes its responsibility to reduce emissions and achieve net-zero emissions across its operations, in line with the ambitions of the Paris Agreement.

“This is at the same time a corporate responsibility decision and a strategic choice for us. Being able to confirm a robust ESG framework and high ESG standards are becoming increasingly critical to our institutional investor base. Having our targets externally validated would provide our investors with additional confidence that we are taking a structured, science-based approach to our ESG efforts, working towards the right targets, and ensuring that the resources and investments dedicated to this work are well justified,” commented Christoffer Abramson, Group CEO and Partner of Northern Horizon.

We want to ensure that the targets we are working towards remain ambitious, science-based and aligned with real-world decarbonization pathways.

“Northern Horizon has set a long-term ambition to achieve net-zero across its operations, and we have been dedicated to driving reductions and improvements across our asset portfolio. In 2025, we were recognized by GRESB as best-in-class globally in our category. This was a great honor, and being acknowledged has given us motivation to raise the bar even further. We want to ensure that the targets we are working towards remain ambitious, science-based and aligned with real-world decarbonization pathways. Therefore, as the next step in our sustainability and climate efforts, we have committed to validating our net zero targets through the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi),” added Dunja Lönnqvist, Sustainability Manager, Northern Horizon.

With the commitment letter, Northern Horizon is obliged to have its net zero targets validated by the SBTi within a 24-months deadline.

About the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a corporate climate action organization that enables companies and financial institutions worldwide to play their part in combating the climate crisis.

The organization develops standards, tools and guidance which allow companies to set greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions targets in line with what is needed to keep global heating below catastrophic levels and reach net-zero by 2050 at latest.
